It is the northernmost of the Beaujolais cru, the full name of the city is Saint-Amour-Bellevue and it is located next to the Pouilly fuissé AOP. It is the only cru located entirely within the department of Saône et Loire. It owes its name to a certain "Amor", a Roman legionnaire whose statue is next to the church. Louis Dailly was the main founder of the cru in 1946, just after the war.
With its charming name, Saint-Amour is obviously Valentine's Day wine, almost a quarter of the production is tasted on February 14. Saint-Amour, like Fleurie and Chiroubles, generally provides a lighter and less concentrated expression of Beaujolais cru.
