Carasau was born in the inland areas of Sardinia, in the Gennargentu: these mountains snow-capped in winter, forced farmers to transhumance to warmer areas of the island. For this reason the skilled hands of women created a bread easy to store, longly maintaining its freshness.
These large round sheets of bread, thin and with an intense aroma of grain and wheat, are the ancient bread of our grandparents, always present in the tables of the Sardinians.
A bread made with durum wheat flour, mostly grown in Sardinia.
Dry, crispy, accompanies savory and sweet flavors of any kind such as cheeses, olives, salami, honey.
When lightly wet it goes pleasantly with sauces and gravies, stews, rich stews with vegetables, offering the palate its milder flavor.
On the table Carasau, 'toasted' bread, replaces perfectly the traditional bread.
